Public Health

The Ennis City Commission has adopted the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Food Establishment Rules, to safeguard public health and provide our citizens food that is safe, unadulterated, and honestly presented. The City of Ennis application forms and guidelines are available here on-line. Prior to serving food to the public, a food permit application must be submitted and an on-site inspection of the establishment conducted. The Environmental Health Department will then issue a food permit when all rules are in compliance.

Food Establishments are permanent facilities serving food such as restaurants, convenience stores, hospitals, day care facilities, or nursing homes (See the Food Establishment Guidelines).

Special Events are temporary events, festivals, or fundraiser's that will be serving food from a site that does not have a permanent food permit, such as street-side booths during the Bluebonnet Festival, Polka Festival, or charitable fundraiser's (See Special Event Guidelines or the Special Event Food Application).
