Welcome to Ennis, a Texas Treasure that promises to put a smile in your heart!

Known as the town "where the cotton fields met the railroad," Ennis was profoundly shaped by the arrival of the railroad in 1872. The railroad was key to the development of Ennis as an agricultural, commercial, and industrial center.

Ennis' long involvement with the railroad is commemorated in the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum. This charming museum, housed in the former Van Noy Restaurant Building, includes a large display of early Ennis, models, dioramas, unique railroad memorabilia, and spectacular exhibits of Ennis' cultural heritage.

Ennis, home to one of the largest Czechoslovakian populations in Texas, celebrates each Memorial Day weekend in Ennis with its annual National Polka Festival. This national Czech festival celebrates with a king and queen dance, Polkafest run, giant, colorful parade, horseshoe tournament, unique arts and crafts, authentic, mouth watering Czech cuisine, and over 12 live polka bands.

When it comes to festivals and events, Ennis has more! Ennis, designated the "Official Bluebonnet City" and the "Official Bluebonnet Trail" of Texas, is home to the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club. This event, featuring over 40 miles of the first mapped trails in Texas, pays tribute to these breathtaking and abundant fields of vibrant wildflowers. Bluebonnet Trails span the entire month of April. Thousands of viewers come from all over Texas and throughout the country to experience this most unbelievable rite of spring! The Annual Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival features arts, crafts, and souvenir booths, food booths, children's area, live entertainment, and the well-marked trails.

Locals and tourists also enjoy the cooler weather with the Autumn Days in Ennis Fall Festival, sponsored by the Ennis Historic Downtown Merchants Association held each October. Downtown Ennis transforms into a vivid celebration of the season with live music, children's activities, and other fall activities.

In December, a wonderful community celebration is held that includes thousands of festive lights that adorn the historic downtown and residential district. Late night shopping among the twinkling lights is a favorite holiday activity. Ennis hosts a spectacular lighted parade during the first part of December. Don't miss these seasonal events to get your holiday spirit soaring!

Other activities to enjoy throughout the year include specialty shopping in the historic downtown, enjoying live plays at the Ennis Public Theatre, and watching your favorite movie under the stars at the Galaxy Drive-in Theatre. The Texas Motorplex, one of the nation's most renown drag racing facilities, provides its thrill seekers a yearly calendar of drag racing and specialty events. If you like to camp, picnic, or enjoy a variety of water sports, then scenic Lake Bardwell is the place to be. This sparkling body of water attracts thousands of visitors annually that enjoy skiing, fishing, swimming, camping, and boating at their leisure.
